Fruit and ornamental tree maintenance, pruning & trimming workshop
On Sunday June 4th, Samuel Pinna, arboriculturist, will be offering a tree maintenance, pruning & trimming workshop at the Douglas Community Center from 9 a.m. till noon. Also, we are proud to let you know that the Community Center is planning to plant an orchard. On Sunday, June 4th, we will be planting four apple trees; eventually you may be eating their fruit at a community meal! Since the number of participants is limited, we would appreciate you calling 418-368-0288 to let us know if you are coming. We suggest a $10 contribution to help support this activity.
Douglas community center AGM
OnThursday June 15th at 5 p.m., we will be having our annual general meeting at the Douglas Community Center. Come meet our Board and discover our projects for the upcoming year. We will serve a pizza supper and vegetables with dip after the meeting. Beer, wine and soft drinks will be offered. Welcome to all!
Waffle Contest and Community Breakfast
On Sunday June 18th, we will be having a waffle contest at the breakfast. The Douglastown Hostel is looking for the best waffle recipe to serve visitors during their stay. We will be having a waffle preparation contest that will be judged by a blind taste test by the people who attend this months breakfast. A prize will be awarded to the maker of the best waffle and the winning recipe will be selected as the official waffle of Douglastown for 2017. Selection criteria for the waffle, that must be respected for your waffles eligibility for the contest: 1) Only the waffle will be judged, not the toppings 2) The waffle must be able to be frozen and reheated in the toaster 3) The recipes ingredients must be easily available. Sunday June 18th from 8:00 a.m to 10:30 a.m., we welcome everyone to our monthly breakfast. Join friends and neighbors for an excellent breakfast with a traditional menu. A voluntary contribution of $7 for adults (12 & over), $4 for children (5-11 years) would be appreciated (ages 4 and under, free).
Board Game Evening
On Thursday June 22nd at 5:00 p.m. Get together for a board game evening. Come alone or bring a friend and your favorite games. The $2 grilled cheeses will be back.
On Saturday, June 10th from 9 a.m., there will be a bottle drive fundraiser for The Ride to Conquer Cancer. You can leave your bottles outside for pick up, if you will not be home. Please call Suzanne Briand at 418-368-8718, if you have any questions or would like to help. Thank you all so much for helping her on her journey to find a cure.
AGM Douglastown Shamrock Club
On Saturday, June 10th at 7 p.m., the Douglastown Shamrock Club will be holding its Annual General Meeting at the Trachy Hall. Following the meeting, there will be a Sing-Along. Come enjoy an evening of song and conversation with friends. Please bring your guitar or musical instruments. Members and non-members are welcome. We hope to see you there!
